750V DC SWITCHGEAR REPLACEMENT – CUSTOM HOUSE

Enable Infrastructure completed 750V DC switchgear replacement at Custom House Substation for TfL/DLR. The project upgraded aging infrastructure to improve safety and reliability, minimising disruption to train service. Key elements included replacing a 6-panel switchboard, 110V battery charger, and leakage/busbar cable box. By working efficiently, the team completed the project 2 weeks ahead of schedule, meeting the client’s objectives.

IMPROVING SECURITY AND ACCESS AT COMPANIES HOUSE

Enable Infrastructure completed the Gatehouse Project to enhance security and access at the Companies House facility in Cardiff. Working through the Crown Commercial Services Framework, they installed robust barriers, security fencing, turnstiles, and vehicle gates to control entry and exit. The project also included new foundations, surfacing, CCTV, lighting, and signage to improve traffic flow and security. Enable overcame challenges like working in a high-security, pedestrianized area by meticulous planning and collaboration.

MIDLANDS MAIN LINE UPGRADE

Enable Infrastructure completed the Midland Main Line Upgrade for SPL Powerlines UK, a major rail infrastructure project. Key contributions included electrification and overhead line installation across over 100 miles of track. Challenges involved coordination, geographic scope, and design changes. ICP CONNECTION UNDER-TRACK INSTALLATION AT WESTON-SUPER-MARE

Enable Infrastructure installed two under-track crossings (UTX) for Western Power Distribution in Weston-super-Mare, connecting substations at Warne Road and Bourneville Road. The project involved excavation, reinforced concrete works, and the installation of a 610mm sleeve auger using a guided auger-boring technique. Key deliverables included two UTX installations, reinforced concrete works, duct installations, resurfacing, and the reinstatement of a play park and football pitch.

Enable Infrastructure resurfaced 20,000 sq m of Thamesdown Drive, Swindon, upgrading road surfaces, kerbing, and traffic signal cabling across 11 junctions. The project required careful traffic management to minimize disruption in a busy residential and commercial area. Challenges included night work, noise, and relocating bee nests. Key deliverables included resurfacing, road markings, and junction upgrades.

 Enable Infrastructure upgraded Milton Keynes University Hospital’s critical power systems, replacing transformers and generators to ensure uninterrupted service. The project included installing a 1400 kVA standby generator and temporary backup power while upgrading the substation and cabling. The project also featured voluntary initiatives, leaving a legacy in the hospital’s cancer ward garden. Key deliverables included transformer replacements, substation upgrades, and new backup systems.

GIDEA PARK DRIVERS’ AND CLEANERS’ ACCOMMODATION

This project involved building modular buildings for MTR Elizabeth Line and Bombardier staff, along with a new access road, parking, and utilities. It also included enhancements such as parking facilities, a bicycle shelter, and EV charging points. All infrastructure—drainage, paving, lighting, and CCTV—was completed on time and within budget. Deliverables included vegetation removal, new permeable paving, drainage, access gates, CCTV, lighting, and additional facilities like smoking and cycle shelters.

EV CHARGING DESIGN AND BUILD FOR BP STATION FORECOURTS

Enable Infrastructure’s work on BP forecourts helped expand EV charging access across the UK while keeping stations operational. By ensuring continuous public access and completing 35 installations in six months, Enable enhanced local infrastructure with new lighting, safety bollards, and EV chargers. Their collaboration with contractors and efficient supply chain management also contributed to making sustainable transport more accessible to the community.

ST BRIDES TO CANTON INDEPENDENT FEEDER​

Enable Infrastructure, as the Tier 1 Principal Contractor, installed a 15km, 25kV feeder cable between St Brides ATFS in Newport and Canton, Cardiff, as part of the Great Western Electrification Programme (GWEP) – a transformative initiative by Network Rail to reduce carbon emissions and improve rail service reliability. This feeder was designed to transmit power independently of the rail contact system, utilising innovative 2-phase link boxes and surge voltage limiters that significantly cut maintenance needs and long-term costs.
