EARTHING & BONDING – CVL E&B

Enable Infrastructure successfully delivered Earthing & Bonding works (Package 12) across the ABD and THT Lines as part of the Core Valley Lines electrification project. Working in close collaboration with Transport for Wales and Amey, the project included bonding at 12 stations—4 major and 8 minor—and civils enhancements to support future-proof installations. Notably, significant works were completed at the new Porth transport hub, ensuring compliance with BS7671 and Electricity at Work Regulations.

READING INDEPENDENT FEEDER

Enable Infrastructure delivered a new high-voltage electricity supply to the Reading Auto Transformer Feeder Site (ATFS), enhancing power resilience across the Wales and Western network. The 17km HV cable route from Holly Cross ATFS—powered by Bramley National Grid—forms part of the 25kV Rationalised Autotransformer System (RATS), supporting electric train operations between London, Cardiff, and Newbury. The project included complex civil and electrical works, environmental mitigation, and stakeholder coordination to future-proof the network.

Enable Infrastructure completed 750V DC switchgear replacement at Custom House Substation for TfL/DLR. The project upgraded aging infrastructure to improve safety and reliability, minimising disruption to train service. Key elements included replacing a 6-panel switchboard, 110V battery charger, and leakage/busbar cable box. By working efficiently, the team completed the project 2 weeks ahead of schedule, meeting the client’s objectives.

MIDLANDS MAIN LINE UPGRADE

Enable Infrastructure completed the Midland Main Line Upgrade for SPL Powerlines UK, a major rail infrastructure project. Key contributions included electrification and overhead line installation across over 100 miles of track. Challenges involved coordination, geographic scope, and design changes. Enable addressed these through logistics planning, multidisciplinary collaboration, and design solutions that improved delivery. The project culminated in enabling a new 400kV-to-25kV supply point substation.
