Enable Power Systems has successfully completed a crucial upgrade project for the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) at Custom House Substation (CHS) Transport for London. In collaboration with DLR, we designed, supplied, and installed modern 750V DC switchgear, enhancing efficiency and safety for maintenance operations while ensuring uninterrupted train service for commuters.
The upgrade included a 6-panel switchboard including 110V battery charger, and frame leakage panel, all essential for maintaining a reliable power supply and meeting modern safety standards. Confronted with a safety-critical issue with the old equipment. Our team worked diligently, reducing the original 9-week construction program to just 7 weeks, earning high praise from both the client and maintainer.
The process involved decommissioning old switchgear, extending trenches, and commissioning new equipment over three shifts. Detailed testing and safety measures, including fire-stopping and floor painting, ensured a top-quality installation.
Deliverables included the replacement of HSNP switchgear at Custom House Substation, a DC protection system compliant with ES-606, and integration with existing systems such as Telecode 80, SCADA, and 11kV switchgear. Comprehensive commissioning and testing of new equipment, along with necessary civil and mechanical modifications, ensured a seamless installation.
