MILTON KEYNES UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL – CRITICAL POWER SUPPLIES
Enable Infrastructure upgraded Milton Keynes University Hospital’s critical power systems, replacing transformers and generators to ensure uninterrupted service. The project included installing a 1400 kVA standby generator and temporary backup power while upgrading the substation and cabling. The project also featured voluntary initiatives, leaving a legacy in the hospital’s cancer ward garden. Key deliverables included transformer replacements, substation upgrades, and new backup systems.

This project involved building modular buildings for MTR Elizabeth Line and Bombardier staff, along with a new access road, parking, and utilities. It also included enhancements such as parking facilities, a bicycle shelter, and EV charging points. All infrastructure—drainage, paving, lighting, and CCTV—was completed on time and within budget. Deliverables included vegetation removal, new permeable paving, drainage, access gates, CCTV, lighting, and additional facilities like smoking and cycle shelters.

By ensuring continuous public access and completing 35 installations in six months, Enable enhanced local infrastructure with new lighting, safety bollards, and EV chargers. Their collaboration with contractors and efficient supply chain management also contributed to making sustainable transport more accessible to the community.

Enable Infrastructure, as the Tier 1 Principal Contractor, installed a 15km, 25kV feeder cable between St Brides ATFS in Newport and Canton, Cardiff, as part of the Great Western Electrification Programme (GWEP) – a transformative initiative by Network Rail to reduce carbon emissions and improve rail service reliability. This feeder was designed to transmit power independently of the rail contact system, utilising innovative 2-phase link boxes and surge voltage limiters that significantly cut maintenance needs and long-term costs.
