Capability Spotlight: Delivering Complex Geotechnical Solutions at Dollis Hill
January 30, 2026
The Dollis Hill Retaining Wall project stands as a definitive case study in Enable Infrastructure’s ability to execute complex geotechnical works within the live rail environment. Delivered for London Underground under the MTR Framework, the project exemplifies our approach to stabilising critical infrastructure under severe site constraints.
Delivering Under Pressure
The scheme involved the complete replacement of a dilapidated masonry wall with a high-specification King Post Wall (KPW) system. Located immediately adjacent to the Metropolitan and Jubilee lines, the project required a solution that prioritised asset protection and operational continuity.
Overcoming Constraints
Dollis Hill demonstrates the logistical and technical resilience required for modern rail infrastructure projects:
-
Logistical Agility: With site access limited to a single narrow gate, we implemented a “just-in-time” material strategy and utilised remote compounds to maintain a clear, safe working footprint.
-
Rigorous Safety Standards: The team successfully managed multiple “Tall Plant Approvals” (TPAs) and strict exclusion zones, ensuring the safety of the operational railway throughout.
-
Technical Precision: The scope included the installation of 12m augured piles and the safe remediation of hazardous ground conditions (asbestos and zinc), protecting both the environment and neighbouring properties.
A Standard for Collaboration
Central to the project’s success was a commitment to transparency. Through the use of digital reporting tools like SymTerra, stakeholders maintained real-time visibility of progress. Dollis Hill remains a key reference point for Enable Infrastructure’s geotechnical capabilities and our commitment to engineering excellence.
