Inspiring the Next Generation of Engineers at Holly Cross Substation

Inspiring the Next Generation of Engineers at Holly Cross Substation

June 26, 2024

We recently hosted a fantastic visit for Waterfront UTC School’s DEC (Design, Engineer & Construct) program at the Holly Cross Substation – part of the Reading Independent Feeder project for Network Rail!

Year 10 students got a first-hand look at civil engineering in action, learning from Enable representatives about various roles within infrastructure, design, resourcing, and more. Network Rail Senior Sponsor, Jill Poyton also gave an entertaining and illuminating perspective on the works, history, and client’s view on the purpose of the substation.

A huge thank you to Amanda Priestland, Martin Dansey, Keltbray, Network Rail and everyone involved for making this a reality! Their dedication is a great example of Enable’s commitment to social value and fostering future generations of engineers.

The students’ enthusiasm was infectious, and it was a delight to share our experiences and inspire their journeys. This is exactly why we’re passionate about giving back to the community and engaging the next generation.

Amanda Priestland, Enable Power Systems Project Manager said:

“The day was truly inspiring for the students and the presentations and sharing of personal career journeys made for a unique insight to the construction industry. The students were engaged and asking questions throughout and it was a privilege to provide the experience for Waterfront UTC at our site at Holly Cross. The students were still buzzing the next day and by all accounts telling anyone who would listen about the day!“

Want to get involved? Supporting educational initiatives like this is crucial for the future of our industry!

We look forward to continuing our partnership with UTC Waterfront and many more inspiring collaborations.

Together, let’s build a brighter future!
