Enable Power Systems Steps Up to Support Bristol’s Homeless Community

August 9, 2025

While working on the HV Western Renewals project at Bristol Temple Meads, our Enable Power Systems team spotted an opportunity to make a real difference in the local community.โฃ
โฃ
The team proactively reached out to Help Bristol’s Homeless, a local charity providing container-turned-homes for homeless people across Bristol, to offer their expertise where it was needed most.โฃ

Help Bristol’s Homeless were facing ongoing electrical issues in their accommodation units. Rainwater had been seeping into the external electrical feeds, causing systems to trip regularly and leaving residents without electricity. The commando sockets lacked sufficient IP ratings, creating reliability problems for residents. With limited funding and no in-house electrical expertise, these essential repairs seemed out of reach.โฃ

Our Power Systems team immediately stepped forward to help. After conducting a thorough site survey to assess access requirements and identify all repairable sockets, one of our skilled electricians spent two full days on-site upgrading the electrical systems.โฃ
โฃ
The result? Much more reliable power supply for the microhomes and their residents โ€“ a small change that makes a huge difference to people’s daily lives.โฃ

“We are extremely grateful to Enable for their support, professionalism, and expertise in completing the work. As we do not receive any government funding, this support truly makes a difference in people’s lives.”
โ€” Kerrie Woolf, Project Manager, Help Bristol’s Homeless

As Matt Waters, Enable Power Systems Project Manager, reflected:
“Whilst carrying out our HV Switchgear renewals in the Bristol area, we saw the brilliant work at Help Bristol’s Homeless. They are a fantastic charity, and offered our support in upgrading their electrics to provide a more reliable service. Giving back to the community is something Enable always strives to do, and projects like this show how important it is.”
