Watch My Back – May 2019

17th June 2019

“Watch my Back” is BCM’s self-developed and self-delivered Behavioural Safety, Health and Environmental engagement programme.

Running since 2012, it brings together both our internal teams and those of the supply chain, to help share best practice with industry colleagues.

We are committed to ensuring that everyone who works with and for us returns home safe and healthy each day. Everyone plays a role in this and by working with our teams we can help realise this goal.

In May 2019, BCM Construction ran two one day “Watch My Back” workshops – one in Hertfordshire and one in Wales.

80 people attended over the two days with a mixture of Engineers, HSQE Specialists, Senior Managers, Project Managers, Construction Managers, Site Supervisors and supply chain operatives.  They are working on a range of projects for Network Rail, Amey, UK Power Networks and Western Power Distribution.

Shane O’Halloran, Managing Director on Watch My Back:

“BCM has an excellent safety culture which results in outstanding safety performance. These events are a hugely important opportunity for us to engage with our front-line workers to share learning.

We get to apply the lessons we learn from our Close Call reporting trends and we develop interactive sessions on what can sometimes be quite new topics.

In recent years we’ve seen increased awareness of mental health and this year for the first time we placed a focus on education around temporary conditions.

The need to provide some better education on the dangers/requirements surrounding temporary conditions came directly from our Close Call Reporting outputs”
