BCM Delivers Essential Rail Infrastructure Works

9th March 2017

Christmas 2016 was not only the busiest working period BCM has experienced to date, with over 350 employees working, but also the most successful.

As a Network Rail Principal Contractor, BCM is able to provide a fully managed service for all its clients. These works were no different, with meticulous project planning and robust access management forming the basis for this achievement.

The transport infrastructure contractor is delighted to report that all works were completed on time and with zero accidents or incidents.

Projects were completed in multiple locations throughout the rail network and involved several months of pre-planning. Multi-disciplinary Electrification and Civil Engineering teams were engaged in these works, the scope of which included:

  • Completion of an Under Track Crossing (UTX) across 6 lines in Eastleigh, including the installation of 70 ETE cables and 8 Cable Management Sleepers
  • 2No UTX’s and the delivery of around 13 km of HV cables using the Network Rail (NR) cable train on the Great Western Route
  • A 5 track UTX and the installation of 26 Cable Management Sleepers at Victoria
  • Installation of positive cables in preparation for future DC doubling and commissioning at Queenstown Road
  • Installation of new duct routes through platforms at High Brooms and Tunbridge Wells Stations. Tree felling works were also completed at Grove Hill to allow deliveries to a rail-locked site.
  • Platform extension works and gauging works in preparation for the new Crossrail services in 2017

Managing Director Shane O’Halloran was delighted with the outcome and said:

“Well done to everyone who took part and contributed to a successful Christmas. It is an awful time of year to be working but there is a great sense of camaraderie amongst those out working. I know this doesn’t make up for the family sacrifices so I appreciate the efforts and am sincerely grateful.

“It was a significant accomplishment and highlights to our clients our strength in depth as a multi-disciplinary transport infrastructure contracting business.”
